Making The Call
Nancy realized after speaking with Camden that she needed to speak with his father about her concerns. She called Camden’s father right away. Even though it is never easy to approach a child’s parent and ask for details about their private lives, she knew that she had no choice but to make the contact if she truly wanted to help Camden. She sought up the little boy’s home phone number in the class database and then called his father to find out where he was living. The teacher addressed one question to the parent that left him bewildered to the point where he asked her to repeat what she had said.

The Secret Had Been Revealed
When Camden’s father, Darreld, received the phone call, he assumed that Camden had become ill, had wounded himself, or had gotten himself into trouble. The situation had now been brought to the attention of the little boy’s teacher. Then she asked Darreld a question that he really didn’t want to hear: “Do you want to know what I’m thinking?” What, if anything, would be his response?
