Homemade Cleaners That Actually Work
When it comes to cleaning supplies and cleaners, there are so many different types and kinds all over that it can become confusing and even overwhelming after a while. Not to mention, they can get pretty pricey too. Well, we have a solution for that! If you’re looking for a cheap way to keep your dorm or apartment nice and clean without having to spend all your money on supplies, this is for you. We’ve gathered a few of the best cleaners you can make at home that are both simple and cheap! The best part is that a lot of these ingredients can be found in your pantry already.
Scented All-Purpose Cleaner
For this one you’ll need:
- One part white vinegar
- One part water
- Lemon rind
- Rosemary sprigs
Combine all the ingredients and pour into a spray bottle. Shake it up and then let it infuse for a week before using it. Once that’s done, you can use this blend to remove water stains, clean up trash cans, wipe away small smudges, and so much more! Aside from having a nice fresh scent, the lemon rind will boost the cleaning power this mix has. One tip: don’t use acidic cleaners on granite since they will etch the stone.
Kitchen Cleaner & Deodorizer
You’ll need:
- 4 tablespoons baking soda
- 1-quart warm water
This mix is perfect for cleaning kitchen counters, appliances, and the inside of your refrigerator. Baking soda is a great deodorizer and can be used to shine stainless steel sinks and appliances. To do so, make a paste of baking soda and water. Apply it with a damp cloth and rub gently in the direction of the metal’s grain. Rinse and buff dry.
Glass Cleaner
You’ll Need:
- 2 cups of water
- 1/2 cup white or cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup 70% rubbing alcohol
- 1 to 2 drops of orange essential oil (optional)
Next time you need to clean your windows and mirrors, combine these ingredients, and pour them into a spray bottle. Tip: don’t clean your windows on a hot sunny day. This will cause the solution to dry too quickly, leaving a lot of streaks. For mirrors, spray the solution on a paper towel or soft cloth before wiping.
Grease Cleaner
Last but not least, you’ll need for this one:
- 1/2 cup sudsy ammonia
- Water
Sudsy ammonia has a detergent in it that helps remove tough grime. Mix 1/2 cup with water to fill a one-gallon container. Then, clean your oven racks, stove hood, and grill by dipping a sponge into the solution and wiping over the surface. Rinse with clear water. You can also soak racks and grill grates directly in the solution with a little extra ammonia if they’re really dirty.
