Cruise portrayed Colonel von Stauffenberg in the World War II drama “Valkyrie,” who once attempted to assassinate Adolf Hitler. It was later stated that Cruise took the role in the film because he saw an image of the real-life Colonel and believed they looked a lot alike. The parallels in appearance captivated Cruise, who thought assuming the job would be a wonderful career move.
