After Claiming Over $1,000,000 On Life Insurance, His Parents Threatened To Disown Him

Published on 10/26/2022

Having been diagnosed with a terminal illness, David was unable to work and attempted to live out the rest of his life comfortably. Fortunately, he was able to do this on account of money given to him from his life insurance policy. However, due to certain terms stated in the policy, the conditions made life anything but simple for David… as his parents John and Joan ensured chaos.

Claiming The Life Insurance

Not long after David had been diagnosed with a terminal illness; he called his life insurer to file a claim. David had been prepared for an unfortunate event like this ever since he had turned 18, and fortunately was covered. However, there were two routes he could go down when claiming the insurance. Option 1 involved claiming nothing until his inevitable demise, at which time his next of kin, John and Joan, would receive a large sum, around $1,000,513. However, the second option had several conditions. The life insurance company would pay David’s rent (up to a generous amount) until his death, giving him monthly allowances and expenditure to ensure that he could live out the last of his days in comfort. At the end of this, his next of kin would receive a small settlement of around $25,000. David was sure that option 2 was right for him, well, that was until he told John and Joan about his plans. That was when all HELL BROKE LOOSE…

Disbelief

“What do you mean David? Do you know how incredibly selfish that is?”, Joan exclaimed. He sat there in a state of confusion. “What do you mean Mom?”. She proceeded to angrily explain that if he was to do this, it would leave them penniless. After all they had done for him, raising him, feeding him, clothing him; she couldn’t believe he would leave them high and dry after he passes. David was in disbelief. How could his own parents be so horrid. He is about to pass away and all they care about is money? Well he wasn’t going to stand for it.

Standing His Ground

“I am going to die within a few months, and all you care about is money!”, David exclaimed. He told them exactly what he thought of them. Even though he was currently filled with rage, the situation saddened him more than anything. How can his own parents not care about him? “Well I’m sorry David, if you do this, not only will you be moving out, but we will have no choice but to disown you”. “No son of ours would truly act like this, so don’t be our son”. David couldn’t believe what he had heard. He gently stood up for his chair and perhaps said something that shouldn’t have been said…

An Awful Outburst

“I am going to use all the cash”, David told Joan. “Every last cent will be spent before I die”. “I will waste it on things I don’t need, I will give it away, I would rather BURN it then give you or John a single penny!”. Joan gawped in shock. John stood awkwardly next to her and began to look unwell. It can’t be easy hearing such things from your only child. “I don’t feel so well”, John told the pair as he fell to his knees, ultimately collapsing on the floor. “There’s something I need to tell you both”, he whispered from a fetal position on the rough carpet.

Calling An Ambulance

Before John could explain further what he meant, Joan shushed him and ran to find her mobile so that she could call an ambulance. David sat uninterested. He truly believed his father was faking this whole ordeal in order to avoid the ongoing situation regarding the life insurance cash. It was unbelievable. His father was always dramatic at the best of times, now evidently the worst too! “Get up Dad, you’re embarrassing yourself”. “You don’t understand”, John muttered. “I need to tell you the truth”. David was confused. “The truth about what?”…

The Paramedics Rushed In

Before he could answer, David was ushered away by a pair of incoming paramedics. The whole thing happened so quickly. John was lifted up onto a gurney and speedily wheeled out to the ambulance outside. “We have to go to the hospital Mom, Dad was acting really strange, saying strange things”. “I’m sure it’s just delusional talk from the faint, but let’s follow the ambulance to the hospital’. David agreed. He was still livid that his own mother had threatened to disown him, but right now there were bigger things going on. He needed to know what his Dad was going to tell him.

A Long Drive

“Do you think Dad will be ok?”, David asked Joan. “I hope so”, she replied. “Now that I have no son, he is the only family I have left. And just like that, he was reminded of the horrible argument that they had just had. He saw their point, he could ensure that they would never need to work again. But why should he have to subsidize the last months of his life? He could live the rest of his life comfortably, not in his parents spare bedroom. He did begin to wonder whether he was doing the right thing. Before he could think further, they arrived at the hospital. He wondered what his father was about to tell him before he was whisked away. It sounded concerning. He needed to know, now.

A Shocking Reveal

David and Joan were quickly shown to one of the emergency rooms in the hospital, being reunited with a stable John. “Dad, what were you about to say to me before you got into the ambulance?”, David asked. “Don’t do it John, we need the money”, Joan stuttered. David wondered what on Earth was going on. “David… we NEED that money, otherwise we might be going to heaven even before you”. “We’re in a bit of trouble… with the Mafia”.

“The Mafia?!”, David exclaimed. “What have you got yourselves into?”, he asked. John turned away sheepishly, as a dejected Joan took a seat on a nearby chair. “We need that cash son, or the Mafia are going to come after me”, John explained. “They say I owe them $1.2 million, but if I can get them $1 million in cash, they will accept it”. David was in absolute shock. His entire world had come crashing down. Was he meant to live in pain for his last few months because of a mess his parents got themselves into? Was it crime-related? There were too many unanswered questions. David couldn’t understand and demanded answers.
