10 Minutes After She Started Her New Job, She Handed In Her Notice

We’ve heard of short tenures in professional positions. Some people work their first day and realize they’ve made a mistake, some have other circumstances that prevent them from fulfilling their duties. This woman however, had a completely different reason for calling it quits ten minutes in on her first day.

Concerns

Teearra West revealed in a TikTok video that she had recently been employed by a company, but on her first day there, she had seen a few unsettling things about her employers, which had led her to leave the premises before she had even started working. She couldn’t believe what she had seen.

Early Warning Signs

One of the first things Teearra noticed when she entered the lobby was that some of her soon-to-be coworkers were old friends from school. Some noticed her sat waiting and asked her if she had just been hired. She responded yes and couldn’t believe the response she had gotten.

Good Luck

The new coworkers looked her in the eyes, let out a sigh and said “Good Luck, you’ll need it”. She was surprised and unsure what they meant by this. She looked at all five of these employees and they all had the same reaction.

But Why?

“You won’t enjoy it here”, one said. She became nervous but chose to overlook this initial reaction. Who knows, maybe these were just disgruntled employees with a vendetta. Anyway, she  waited until she was finally approached by the trainer.

First Mistake

The trainer came out and approached West. She said, “Hey, we’re still waiting on a piece of your background to come back, so if you want to wait in the lobby, you can.'” West was aggravated as she had already sent documents several times, and waited a long time for this day, and she was let down straight away. She left, and returned the next day, where problems continued to arise.

The Process

After securing a permanent job that was due to start in four weeks, Teearra was eager to find a temporary job to help pay the bills in that time. She applied for the job and was essentially hired that same day. However, even though she was initially elated, the additional checks had to come through first.

Check After Check

As soon as she had been hired, they began sending her things to do. She had to do a background check, a drug test, among other menial tests. She knew that it was part of the process, so complied without question. It was here though, that red flags began to show.

Red Flag #1

The first of several red flags was the salary. Teearra had reached out to the job recruiter to ask what the hourly rate would be. However, she was told three different figures, all of which were below what Teearra had been expecting for the position. It only gets worse…

“They kept giving me the runaround”, she says. Teearra explains how they kept telling her to fill out an I9 form time after time, despite having done it already several times. She recalls they kept telling her that they hadn’t received it. She was shocked but wanted the job, so kept re-sending it. Eventually, they invited her in and told her all the forms were finished.

Final Red Flag, And Final Straw

After being met by the trainer, she was told to wait a little longer for her background check to come through. In the meantime they took her ID photo. However, for Teearra this was one red flag too many. When the woman finally came back to give her the new ID badge, she replied saying “Keep the badge”.
Teearra  explained, “They should’ve been well-prepared because I’ve been waiting on this job for about two weeks, so [they] had plenty of time to get my [things] together and organize.”
We can’t agree more! We hope she had more luck with subsequent jobs…
