Lory Del Santo
Clapton did perform a handful of shows in Milan, Italy, in October 1985, but they were short-lived. While in Italy, the guitarist met and allegedly fell in love with Lory Del Santo, an Italian woman, whom he met while on tour. They didn’t seem to care that he was married, and it appears that they began an affair with each other. Boyd’s heart was broken for a variety of reasons as a result of the pregnancy that resulted from this relationship.

Boyd Was Devastated
Boyd, as you may be aware, has been experiencing fertility troubles. Boyd and Clapton had even attempted to conceive a child through in vitro fertilization (IVF), but were unsuccessful. Boyd appeared to be going through miscarriage after miscarriage, and it was really distressing. Boyd was obviously distraught when Clapton informed her that Del Santo was expecting a kid of her own. “[She] felt] like [her] heart was about to disintegrate,” according to Clapton’s biographer Philip Norman.
