In the following years, Clapton formed Cream, a band that specialized in improvised blues and “arty pop,” which was followed by the release of Blind Faith in 1969 and a solo career that featured collaborations with Derek and the Dominoes. Clapton co-wrote the hit song “Layla.” while he was a member of this last ensemble.

His Friendship With George Harrison

By the late 1960s, however, Clapton had developed a friendship with George Harrison, the lead singer of the Beatles. During the Beatles’ 1968 album “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” Clapton contributed a guitar solo to the song “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.” It was written by George Harrison. Soon after, Clapton appeared on Harrison’s debut solo album, an experience that the guitarist would have several times over the next few years.
