The Phone Call
Bill thought, I just need him to go. He informed Adam that he agreed and that they should inform someone. The men remained silently for a short while in the small storage facility, starring at each other. Bill cleared his throat and added, “You should get going. You probably have a lot that you have to do.” Bill noticed a look of relief appear on Adam’s face, and the man nodded. He swiftly left the room after gathering the majority of his father’s records and supporting documentation. Bill pulled his cell phone from his pocket and dialed a number.

Breathing in deeply the first fresh air, Adam left the storage facility. The manager’s incident had unsettled him, and he couldn’t get rid of the impression that they had discussed something significant. After all, this wasn’t Adam’s house. Even though it was his hometown, he hadn’t gone there in a long time. He was aware of his ignorance of how things operated. A sense of dread began to rise in him as he got into his car and drove out of the storage facility. After traveling a mile, he noticed flashing red and blue lights behind him.
