We’ve all been there; waking up and realizing you have nothing but frozen pizza and instant noodles in your college apartment’s kitchen, but having an empty bank account to accompany it. You’re on a tight schedule with attending classes, studying, and balancing a social life; so what are you to do for money? There are plenty of creative ways to earn some extra cash while still having time for your other social and academic commitments! Not every student job is demanding and time-constrictive; in fact, there are numerous jobs that are quite the opposite, while also providing you some perks! Check them out below.
The Most Student-Friendly Jobs
Dog Walker
Dogs are known for being therapeutic anyway, so why not relieve some stress by hanging out with some adorable pups? You can get your exercise in by walking them around town while also getting some great cuddles in with the furry pets. You can charge various amounts for walks, based on dog size, walk length, and other factors, but overall you can generally make pretty good money from this, especially if you’re willing to walk more than one dog at a time!
Barista
As a college student, you pretty much have coffee to thank for you still being sane and being able to wake up every day, which is probably why college towns are filled with so many Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, and other local coffee shops. Being a barista is perfect because it’s super easy to get a shift in before class early in the morning or working in the afternoons or evenings after class. A job as a barista is relatively straight-forward, especially once you get the hang of it. You could serve as a cashier, a hot coffee-brewer, or a cold-drink maker. The average barista usually makes between $10-16 an hour, depending on where you live. On top of the cool experience of being a barista, you’ll probably get some free coffee!
Babysitter
Do you miss your younger siblings at home while you’re away at college? You can find the next best thing by babysitting some adorable kids! Babysitters work almost exclusively on nights and weekends, which is great because it doesn’t interfere with class; plus, the odds of the parents getting home early enough for you to still be able to hang out with your friends are pretty high. If nights and weekends don’t interest you, you could also get a job in a daycare center. This would be like nannying kids while their parents are at work but in a supervised facility. You’ll get to play with some great kids and learn a lot of lessons in responsibility along the way. For babysitting you can charge more for nights/weekends and extra per child- in the long run, you could earn some good cash here!
