Sometimes it feels like the weekend flies by in the blink of an eye and you hardly had any time to relax. While sometimes having weekends that are filled with friends, family, and whole-day long activities can be fun, it’s hardly relaxing or a chance to step away from the feeling of constantly moving that you’re likely experiencing during the week. Everyone needs a chance every once in a while to be able to sit down, breathe for a minute, and have the chance to reset their body so they’re ready to conquer the workweek. We’ve compiled some of our favorite things to do during the weekend to help you relax a bit.
Stop Sleeping All Day
We know what you’re thinking, that sleeping all day is what the weekend is for, but hear us out. When you lay in bed horizontal all day with your eyes shut and not moving a muscle, your body actually gets even more tired, and you’re super likely to really throw off your sleep schedule, so come Monday morning, you’ll be even more tired than you were last week. If you often lay in bed all weekend, but you also often find yourself wondering where the weekend went, it’s likely that you can’t think of where the weekend went because you spent it asleep. Next week, try to get yourself out of bed no more than 1-2 hours after you’d wake up during the week.
Turn Off Your Work Devices
Unless you work at a job where people’s lives are on the line, like in an emergency room, there is absolutely no reason for you to keep your work laptop or cell phone on you during the weekends. Come the end of the workday on Friday, there should be no reason to still be working! Being able to separate your work life from your personal life will save you mountains of stress in the long run. So, put that laptop or cell phone down, stop checking your email, and enjoy your weekend.
Mute Your Social Media For A Bit
Social media is a draining, stressful place, and constantly being connected-especially if you’re the kind of person who always needs to be posting about what’s going on in their life- can be absolutely excruciatingly exhausting. Do yourself a favor and take just a few hours each weekend to mute your Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, or any other social media apps that you use, and get out there and actually enjoy your weekend.
Leave Some Time For Yourself
If you’re someone who likes to jam-pack their weekends full of friends and family because it’s your only time you get with them all week, that’s amazing and you should feel like you can do that. Don’t forget, however, to reserve a few hours during the weekend to be just for you. There is nothing more important than being able to sit down on your front porch or couch with a cup of tea and a good book, or catch up on your favorite Netflix show, and just be able to not speak and not be with anyone. Having that alone time to breathe a bit is crucial for your mental health.
